You Touch Africa
Support from St James' to the project in Ghana
We were delighted to receive an email from Brother Patrick on 4th March 2011, in which he said:
Dear Friends,
I am Br. Patrick Norah, one of the financial solicitors for St. Mary's Vocational School in Boo, Sacred Heart Parish, Wa Diocese, Ghana. I got your email addresses from Fr. Arbogast Lekule a few days ago.
I am writing on the behalf of the students, staff of St. Mary's Vocational School, as well as the entire community of Boo, to express our sincere gratitude to you and all those people of God who helped in raising money for the said Vocational School to buy some sewing machines. Your generous support of 1180.00 (one thousand, one hundred and eighty pounds sterling) has been transferred into the account of the school through Fr. Arbogast. The process to purchase the sewing machines has began. This email is to say a 'BIG THANK YOU'/acknowledging receipt of the money.
We assure you that the money will be used according to the intention. You will be informed through Fr. Arbogast on progress report on the use of the money. You will get, in due time, posted letters from Ghana with pictures from the beneficiaries. Two days ago I was on the phone to the Parish Priest of the project area and he told me that the attendance continues to be good with good spirit.
Once more, may God bless you all for the efforts you are making to better the lives of the underprivileged in this corner of Ghana.
Yours faithfully,
Br. Patrick Norah
The parishioners of St James' collected for two projects in Africa which had been identified by Fr Arbo Lekule's charity You Touch Africa (UTA). This was the main initiative of the Justice & Peace Group for 2010-11 and by July 2011 some £7,000 had been collected. Details of the project in Ghana (this is a large PDF so may take a while to download). The other project was in Tanzania : read about the Tanzanian project here. Return to UTA index
The photograph below shows two of the students practising their weaving skills. The weaving course had been added to the curriculum as a result of the St James' donations. Brother Patrick Norah sent the picture in February 2012.
